BOOTCAMP 2023- IT’S IN-TENTS

As the summer approaches and the field season ramps up, Black Fly staff get together for our annual training event.

Team members from all over Canada gather in Alberta to enjoy a week of camping, teambuilding, brushing up on old skills, and learning new ones.

This year bootcamp was held at Nature Alive Adventures. Our host Dale taught us knife skills, fire building, and shelter building. We even spent a night in the woods, sleeping in our new shelters.

Bootcamp week also featured a variety of presentations on different jobs we do at Black Fly. It was a great opportunity to get a better understanding of what staff with other specializations do. In between presentations and survival skills, staff competed in a series of contests to determine who would be crowned the annual boot camp champs. These games included navigating using a map and compass, writing safety plans, and backing in a trailer. Full of good food and armed with new skills, everyone left bootcamp excited to take on the busy field season ahead!.
