Do you hear that?! Spring is officially here and the birds are back… and they’re looking for a good place to nest.

Most birds don’t take your construction plans into consideration and will happily build a nest attached to a bridge girder, in a grassy ditch, or on the ground along your (not so freshly) mulched right-of-way. Birds will build a nest wherever they feel safe, and the government regulations make sure they have extra space around their nests to do their bird business in peace. We call this a buffer. Depending on the bird, the buffer can extend up to one kilometer. Imagine having to delay your construction because of a nest located a kilometer away - although this is uncommon, it CAN and HAS happened. Yes, even in Alberta.
