A JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES…

… begins with a single flight!

Our team has been busy on a variety of projects this summer, but regardless of the work they performed, everyone had the occasion to hear or see a few migratory bird species and these fellows are now well on their way to their final destination for the winter.

Take for example these Barn Swallow nestlings in British Columbia. Born in a nest built on an excavator, they fledged in late August and their migratory journey will take them to Central and South America around October and November. This species often nests on man-made structures and this pair decided that this excavator was just right! Threats are numerous for all songbird species and the mortality rate is high amongst juveniles, hence the importance to provide protection where possible. In Canada, The Migratory Birds Convention Act ensures that their nests are legally protected, which is why a buffer was established around this nest to minimize disturbance to these birds throughout the summer.

Just like their human counterparts, these literal snowbirds will be back next Spring and Black Fly can assist you with making sure their eggs and nests receive the proper protection for your project to stay in regulatory compliance
